after updating ubuntu on toshiba nb100, no audio

Asked by Artty MI

I just unpacked my Toshiba NB100 with Ubuntu preinstalled. Everything went fine until I installed the 100 or so recommended updates - you guessed it already, no more audio after reboot. :-P

I'm a proficient Win user (support technician) but in Ubuntu land I'm as green as grass, any ideas appreciated.

Ubuntu 8.04 i guess (no idea where to get the version number, Apple shows it right under "about this mac" but since the preinstalled Ubuntu is a so-called remix maybe they decided to suppress version info in order not to confuse the user ;-)

this fixed it (no idea why, found it on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=990402)

1- Open Terminal
2- Type sudo mv /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-lpia/updates/sound ~/sound
3- Enter your password
3- Type sudo depmod -a
4- Restart machine

Then the sound worked again for me
