When setting static IP in Mythbuntu 8.10 alternate AMD64 resolv.conf not created

Asked by mike

When installing mythbuntu 8.10 alternate amd64 i setup my IP address a static because i use this as my main server and have several FE that connect to it. Since 8.10 bata through the release of 8.10 I've been having problems getting the installation to connect to the internet. Connection to my local network is fine and everything works if I install with a dynamic IP. With the static installation the network-manager applet is not active but the program is in stalled along with the network-manager-gnome. After some investigation I discovered that with the choices I make with the installation of the Mythbuntu 8.10 alternate AMD 64 release, particularly a static IP, the resolv.conf file is created with only a comment in it. Once I edit it with the nameservers I use everything works as it should. the network-manager applet still does not appear but that is not necessary for the configuration I need to achieve. Once I reboot the system the resolv.conf file is replaced with the original blank file. To correct this problem I removed the network-manager and network-manager-gnome packages and the resolv.conf file remains with the nameservers intact, This still seems to be an issue since the resolv, conf file is essential for network connectivity especially if you are running it as a server in in form. Is there something else going on in the background with 8.10 that makes this a nessesary action with the resolv.conf file?
