Will support for the Hauppauge HVR-950 be included in MythBuntu

Asked by MikeB23930

Have you included support for the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950 usb stick tuner in Mythbuntu 7.10? If not, could you please consider including it? If that is not possible, will compatible mercurial, linux-headers-2.6.xxx, linux-source, and build-essential packages be available so I could try to compile the driver from source?

Thanks,

Mike

The problem with adding the firmware for the HVR-950 is the licensing. Do you know the license that the firmware for the HVR-950 falls under?

As to answer your second question, Mythbuntu is based off of Ubuntu Gutsy and uses Gutsy repos. So those packages will be available as long as they are available in Gutsy.

I haven't been able to find any explicit information about licensing. That said, the drivers appear to be part of the v4l project which I think would make them open source. I really don't understand enough about software licensing to say anything more than that would be even slightly coherent.

Thanks for replying to my post. When I have the time I will probably try to compile the drivers for MythBuntu alpha?? and see if I can get the HVR-950

Don't know why my unfinshed message suddenly got posted. Anyway, I will probably try to get it working under MythBuntu when I have the time.
