sandbox and previously installed MySQL

Asked by DSonifer on 2008-11-13

Sandbox sounds like a great idea and I hope to use it. An application vendor of ours has already installed MySQL 5.0.67 into an application-specific path (running on Linux Redhat Enterprise 5.1). We want to use MySQL for a home-grown schema and tables. Can I install sandbox and let it know about the MySQL version already installed? I'd then use sandbox to define a different server -- probably without installing MySQL again.

The vendor wants to keep their instance of MySQL separate from anything else; sandbox sounds like a good solution. I am not sure how interested they would be in uninstalling MySQL and then installing again using sandbox, but I might suggest it to them if that would be a better -- or only -- solution.

The Sandbox can install a completely separate server, without need of passing information about the existing instances.

To install a side instance, please do
./make_sandbox /path/to/mysql/binary/tarball-5.1.29.tar.gz

MySQL Sandbox will install a server using port 5129.

Please try installing before asking more questions.
