Safe to migrate Percona MySQL from 5.5 to 5.6

Asked by Amit

We need to take one database dump and retore at same time migrating to newer infrastructure with has newer version of MySQL. We know that mysqldump and restore is safe when migrating from 5.5 to 5.6 Percona version, we are seeing some issue with Xtrabackup. How is mydumper, just like mysqldump safe when migrating from 5.5 to 5.6?

Yes, mydumper is a logical backup tool as mysqldump, so you can use it for major upgrades. Just take in mind the mysql schema that has differences between majors.

Also I would recommend you the upgrade in place option, but this is not a topic to discuss here.

Can you help with this problem?
