It would be great if this were distributed under a BSD style license, like the PSF license. The biggest problem with using the canonical MySQL client library is, in my opinion, the GPL. This project eliminates the need to use that code, but it's still GPL, so doesn't really improve from a licensing perspective.

Most open sourced MySQL software is released under the GPLv2 license and it has been decided to do the same for MySQL Connector/Python.
