WBW

Asked by Ralph Bruechert

The summary forecast shows wind speed followed by (WBW). I assume that refers to wind direction, but the meaning is unclear. What is WBW, and what other abbreviations are used? The Help page did not supply an answer.

Hello,
I think it's not related with the wind, but with the wether station where the information are coming.
E.g. from Wyoming Valle Airport (WBW)

Are you from US! if yes then it's possible.

Hello, Again
I wasn't very sure, so i kept look for one answer.
That wind direction is not easy to read, i found a forum of wind experts, and that is a complex science.
If you wont to know more you can start to reading this:

Good luck.

It should be WNW. WBW is a typo. It should read WNW (West-northwest). This can be confirmed by comparing compass directions to the contents of the /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/my-weather-indicator/share/weatherservice.py file, which contains the intended meaning of "West-northwest" right next to the questionable abbreviation. The proper abbreviation for West-northwest is WNW.

I just edited the above-mentioned (in comment 3) file on my system and changed the abbreviation to WNW, to match weather service information and standards.

Definitely a mistake. I edited the /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/my-weather-indicator/share/weatherservice.py file on my own machine to correct this. Not sure if there will be a correction in the original file, though. I haven't worried about it since I corrected my own. Hopefully no update will break it again.

This error still exists in the file. I still am correcting it manually with every release.

I sent the devs a pull request on github for this weathersense.py fix.

Can you help with this problem?
