Specifying password_file in Windows

Asked by Tony DiCamillo

In Windows, when I try to specify "password_file" in mosquitto.conf and start the service, I get an error every time. If I comment that line out with a '#', there is no error and the service will start.

I created the password file using mosquitto_passwd.exe in the mosquitto directory and called it "pwfile".

Here is how I modified mosquitto.conf:

password_file "C:\Program Files (x86)\mosquitto\pwfile"

I have also tried with forward slashes, with single quotes, without quotes, etc. None of them seem to be valid.

This is the latest version of mosquitto 1.3.5 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.

What is the appropriate syntax for specifying a password file in the conf file in Windows?

Try with a path without a space in it. This should be fixed for version 1.4.
