launchpad namechange broke my wiki signon

Asked by Leigh Honeywell

Hey folks!

I changed my launchpad ID from hypa7ia to hypatia a while back. When I went to log in to the wiki today, I was redirected to LP, where I was logged in, and then back to a page on the wiki which asked for a password. None of the usual suspects worked, for either hypa7ia or hypatia. I needed to get some editing done so I ended up just picking another nick (hypatiadotca) and editing away, but now my wikiedits link to a non-existent launchpad profile. Is there any way to fix my wiki account?

Thanks!

This may be an Ubuntu SSO problem. I recall something similar to this issue where a wiki admin have to update the wiki sync the SSO changes.

I'm told that this may be related to an SSO issue that is scheduled for a fix today. I have asked to be alerted when the fix is deployed so that I can ask you to check if it resolves the problem you encountered.

This has gone back to being even more broken. I now can't log in to wiki.ubuntu.com as either hypatia or alternately hypatiadotca. I get

"The username you have chosen is already taken. If it is your username, enter your password below to associate the username with your OpenID. Otherwise, please choose a different username and leave the password field blank."

With no way to recover / reset the password.

Any progress on this? I still can't sign in to the main Ubuntu wiki.

This looks like an issue with the Moin OpenID implementation - specifically with handling changes to the username although we've had trouble reproducing the behaviour consistently. The password prompt is coming from Moin, but you probably don't have a non-OpenID account on Moin to be able to use the feature. Bug #342431 looks like the problem. We'll see if we can find a workaround for you.

Hey folks, I'm still waiting on this. It's interfering with my ability to work on Ubuntu-Women and Ubuntu-Canada related wiki stuff. Please help me out here :/

Leigh, I've worked around the problem. You should be able to login to the Ubuntu wiki now.

Still not working, sadly - when I get directed back after authorizing LP I still get the same "The username you have chosen is already taken. If it is your username, enter your password below to associate the username with your OpenID. Otherwise, please choose a different username and leave the password field blank." :(

I suspect that your browser is using cached credentials. You will need to logout of the wiki and log back in again. If the problem still persists, then clearing the cookies for wiki.ubuntu.com might be the more brute force method to resolve this issue.

Tried removing cookies in FF, tried using a completely fresh instance of Chromium... no dice. Same error message :(

Looks exactly like the problem I am experiencing:

Unable to login to the Ubuntu Wiki using OpenID

I'm still waiting on this, and it's hampering my participation in the Ubuntu Canada and Ubuntu Women teams. Any updates?
