template.tex file `picture' not found. \makecvtitle

Asked by Kyle Wong

A friend referred me to moderncv at http://www.ctan.org/pkg/moderncv and I am trying to use the moderncv/examples/template.tex file in TeXstudio 2.9.4 on Windows 8.1

but just loading the file and trying to Build & View or Compile leads to the error:
line 57 File `picture' not found. \makecvtitle

I'm fairly new to LaTeX and TeXstudio, but I'd expect the examples to be easily compilable. Should I be using a different editor? Is there something I'm missing?

My directory structure is:

latex ->
  template.tex (copied from the moderncv/examples folder)
  moderncv -> (folder with all the sty files)
    examples->
      template.tex (original, unmodified file from moderncv download)

I also tried simply opening the original unmodified template.tex within the examples folder, and it builds and runs with the same error.

The full set of logs is:
