Latex Font Size

Asked by Brett Crosby

I've just installed MikTex and have latex showing up in the Q & A dialog boxes so all working well.
Only problem is that the display size of the font is three times the size of the rest of the text in the display.
I've tried editing the latex preamble and set a smaller font size but this hasn't seemed to make any difference. Any suggestions as to how to make Latex honour the specified font size?
Thanks

You can also play with the dpi argument in .mnemosyne/latex/dvipng

Thanks for your answer however I tried several settings and couldn't get the size to change at all.
I did a search for another dvipng file under the MikTek directory to see if there was something that conflicted with the Mnemosyne config files but couldn't find anything.
Must be something else somewhere in the belly of the beast.
Thanks anyway.

Ah, when you edit such a setting, make sure to delete all the png files that were previously in the latex directly, so that Mnemosyne can regenerate those. Otherwise it will just use the cached versions.

Hi Peter,
Funny you mention that. I've just installed Mnemosyne/MikTek on my home computer and the settings work as expected.
The other thing that happens is that I see the PNG files being generated in the latex directory which doesn't happen on the work computer. The formulas generate correctly however not where they are supposed to.
I think my guess about a second config location or something to do with the install is right so I'll reinstall tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.
Having a working example certainly helps though.
Thanks again for your help on this issue.
When do you think v2 will come out? I love the program and am looking forward to some of the new features.

Found it!
The installer of mnemosyne has put the default directory on to a mapped "home drive" on our network. All the PNGs have been saved there and, when I changed the font size settings they worked perfectly.
Problem now is how do I change the mapping to point to the local drive? This is a laptop and I won't be connected to the network always.
I've searched the registry and also the Mnemosyne settings to see what I could find there but can't see anything that changes the default.
I guess I could disconnect from the network and then reinstall to see if that fixes the problem.
Any other thoughts before I head down that path?

Tried uninstalling Mnemosyne, disconnecting the network and then reinstalling. Still looks to z:
Deleted the .mnemosyne directory from z: - error in log file as follows:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "mnemosyne", line 101, in ?
File "mnemosyne\core\mnemosyne_core.pyc", line 191, in initialise

File "mnemosyne\core\mnemosyne_core.pyc", line 191, in initialise

Mnemosyne fails to start.
There must be a configuration file somewhere that I can edit so that it looks in my local home directory and not the network drive.
Suggestions?

RTFM!
Just ran For Windows, open a command prompt (Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System-> Command Prompt) and type:
C:\Program Files\Mnemosyne\Mnemosyne.exe" -d your_custom_data_dir

As per the instructions on the Mnemosyne website.
Thanks again for a great product.

Spoke too soon.
I ran the command and it seemed to point things to the right place however.
* The images are now being generated in the correct location and apparently at the right size. I can see that by watching the folder and viewing files.
* The images are not showing on the cards (I just get a grey box with no content).
* Every time I start Mnemosyne it recreates the directory structure on the Z: drive and seems to ignore C:
It's as if the command that I ran only applies to the current session and not globally.
Any suggestions?

By default, the .mnemosyne directory will be created on your home directory, which in your case seems to map to your network drive.

You can specify a different directory to use with the -d option, but you need to specify this option *every* time you run Mnemosyne.

Also make sure you are using the latest version.
