Input Special Characters Problem

Asked by Phillip

Hi,

I love using Mnemosyne, and I have been using it for almost a year now. However, I have always had this problem with inputing special characters/script (all Unicode). When I go to add a card for my Sanskrit deck I cannot type in devanagari or in latin characters with diacritical marks (all Unicode based). I normally use Tavultesoft's Keyman keyboards to type in different scripts or to use type in transliteration scripts with diacritical marks. I do not have a problem typing in devanagari or latin devanagari transliteration using Keyman in any other program on my computer (Word, Firefox, Notepad, Thunderbird, etc.). However, in Mnemosyne the cursor usually backs up a space and displays a blank space instead of the character I typed. I simply cannot input Unicode text into Mnemosyne using Keyman.

What's weird is that I can type the necessary characters in an outside program and copy & paste into Mnemosyne. The pasted script/characters display perfectly. Also, if I type up flashcards in an outside .txt file I can import the cards into Mnemosyne and the characters again display perfectly. Again, I simply cannot input the characters using Mnemosyne itself (yes, I have changed the settings to use the appropriate fonts).

This is very annoying because often I simply need to add a few cards that I recently came across and would like to add them quickly using Mnemosyne's Add a Card feature. It becomes a hassle to always copy & paste or import.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Phillip

I'm afraid there is nothing much I can do about this directly, as all of this is handled by the GUI toolkit Mnemosyne uses. Mnemosyne 1.x uses Qt3, but in the development version we upgraded to Qt4, so hopefully this is fixed there.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll wait to see if the next version fixes the problem. Although, I'm wondering if anyone else uses Keyman to input other languages, and if so have they had similar problems with Mnemosyne?
