my deck is gone! :( CHKDSK ran this morning.

Asked by Valerie Harden

I sure hope you can help me. This morning when I turned my computer on it asked to run chkdsk (which I really don't understand) so I did. Now Mnemosyne can't open the default.mem file. I've read other threads suggesting that one look for backup xml files in the .mnemosyne folder. My problem is that windows seven won't show me a .mnemosyne folder. I'm looking in C/program files (x86)/Mnemosyne and the only folders there are image and sound folders and one called locale. Am I looking in the wrong place? Is this a windows 7 thing? Most of all, is there some way to get my files back? (I had over 3000 cards that have taken me 2 yrs to accumulate :( ). Any help would be tremendously appreciated!!

From http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org/help/backups.php you'll find that Mnemosyne stores its files in the .mnemosyne directory located at: C:\Documents and Settings\username\.mnemosyne or on Windows Vista and Windows 7 that'll be C:\Users\username\.mnemosyne

Can't help with restoring it if it's not there though.

(I'm just a user so you might get a better response from a developer)

Agreed with Si :-)

However, if your drive has crashed to such an extent that it also destroyed the backups, and you don't have a backup on another disk, then there is not a lot we can do, I'm afraid...

Thank you both very much. The folder was indeed where Si said to look, but unfortunately it is empty. Thanks anyway for your help.
