VCI-400

Asked by BenjaminAtom

Hey guys, just wanted to see if i could possibly get a beta version capable of fully harnessing the power of my Vestax VCI-400 midi controller. I know that the mappings have been created recently are it looks like you guys are on the road to a full release of 1.12 which will be HUGE to say the least. I currently have a festival booked for the end of May and I am looking to use my VCI-400 controller on stage. I would much prefer to be using Mixxx in front of other DJs, Promoters, etc., rather than use commercial software such as Serato, VirtualDJ, Traktor, etc. I believe that a strong development team is the key to creating good software and altough the other guys have dev teams, I do not see the excitement and passion that I see within Mixxx. This is why I am asking you, I really would love to put Mixxx on the map to some friends as a real option for advanced users, where it may not have been before.

What OS do you use? We have recent builds here, although linux builds are not working currently: http://downloads.mixxx.org/builds/master/?C=M;O=D

Be warned that while the code is near-beta, there are still likely to be bugs so caution is warranted. Test it well, and please do report any problems you have. I wrote the VCI400 support so I'm eager for feedback. Some of the buttons are a little non-intuitive and need some work (especially around the effects section). I should probably get working on documenting it so you can find out how it works.

Quick hints for the new VCI config: Slide the front edge switches (usually used for mixer output mapping) all the way to the left for controller control, and all the way to the right for vinyl control. below the effects units, the leftmost button eject the track, and the second from the right is the quantize button. "PARAM" adjust muscial key, and shift-param does a quick seek through the track. the loop knob changes loop size, and shift-loop moves the loop left and right.

In general the mapping follows the VCI400 Serato edition: http://www.streetwisesales.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/vestax_vci_400dj_serato_dj_software.jpg
