Add option to have master output in left channel and headphones output in right channel of the same soundcard

Asked by Hiram Åhl

I would like to know what changes do i need to make in the sourcecode to use the same soundcard for master and headphones output. I would like to use left channel for master and the right channel for headphones (for cue-ing). I used to use this option with PCDJ. I have a external plug that sends the left channel to a stereo output and right channel to another stereo output.

       /===== L+R (1) Master
L--/
R--\
        \===== L+R (2) Headphones

Is it possible? Thank you beforehand for your help!

there are ways of doing this outside of mixxx,

you can do this with jack. http://jackaudio.org/ which is verry easy.

or by writing a custom .asoundrc, but this is likely a royal pain.

I am trying to setup cue split while using Mixxx with Jack audio. I am on laptop which has a built in two channel sound cards. I understand how Jack can route audio from / to various devices.
The bit I fail to understand is how do I create 4 channel device for Mixxx? If I choose the system device with chanel 1, channel 2 for both master and headphones Mixxx fail to initialize. Ideally I would like to be able to do this setup from the commandline but I can handle qjackctl if you can suggest how to do that.

Can you help with this problem?
