Looking for Auto DJ to be added for all playlists.

Asked by Carl Hardy

I am a D.J. using MIXX software for my MacBook Pro. One feature I would like for your group to consider changing or adding is AutoPlay for all playlists instead of having to drop songs into a Auto DJ playlist. Most D.J. programs that I have seen or used have this feature where you can do this in the main deck system.

Thanks for this consideration.

Mixxx has a single Auto DJ Playlist by design. It is unlikely that we will ever change it.
But we are working, to make the use of Auto DJ more and more convenient and feature rich.

At least in the upcoming Mixxx 1.11 you can move a whole playlist to Auto DJ by the playlist context menu.
You can find unstable pre release builds at http://builds.mixxx.org/builds/release-1.11.x/.

Why do you wish to have Mixxx playing an other playlist than Auto DJ? Maybe we can improve the current design if we understand what's the underlying issue.

Thank you for your comments.

Thanks for answering my email on this issue.

It is awkward to have to move playlists to the Auto DJ playlist.

I almost every program I have used or am using you can simple toggle off/on
for the Auto DJ play for any playlist within the main frame of the
application.

Thanks, Carl

Hi Carl,

I understand the need for this if you want to use Mixxx as a music player, but Mixxx is really meant for live DJing. Typically people who use Mixxx are performing a DJ set and Auto DJ is there for when they want to take a break so this is the use-case we have designed it for. Playlists are a key organizational tool for DJs and cluttering up every playlist view with the AutoDJ UI/buttons will take up precious vertical screen space.

If you just want to play a playlist, wouldn't iTunes with a crossfade plugin work? Could you clarify if you want to use Mixxx to DJ or to be a music player?

Thanks for the feedback!

I understand what you are saying. Yes, I would be using MIXX as a D.J. for my side business Good Times Entertainment.

I am not using this type of program as a music player. With this said, it would be so much easier to have the Auto DJ or as most programs call it Auto Play to be used for all playlists in the main player interface. I use the crossfade Auto Play feature throughout a gig and only turn it off when I am making an announcement for a particular song as I introduce the wedding party, Wedding Couple song, etc. for the special times within a wedding reception gig. With parties, and other type of gigs I use it much more.

I hope this explains why I think this needs to be expanded to include an Auto Play within the main system which can be toggled off/on.

Also, ALL of the other D.J. programs I either have or can be purchased have this feature except for MIXX

Thanks for this consideration.
