Lock a deck that is playing

Asked by Ashley Cadwallader

Hello

One suggestion that I could make which could be useful to novice Dj's that are starting out is:

Locking any deck that is currently playing.

I currently use Traktor Pro 2 along with my Pioneer DDJ T1 and after being informed about Open Source projects, I decided to take a look and came across Mixxx. When using a controller it is easy to stop looking at the screen and concentrate on the jog wheels, faders and EQ's.

My suggestion would be to lock any deck that is currently playing, this will mean that a new song/tune selection will not be added to a deck whilst it is still playing. Loading a tune to the wrong deck will result in silence, and no doubt a chorus of boos from the crowd, whilst the DJ gets the new song/tune running.

If the programme was to bring up an error message, stating that the deck was playing thus the new tune cannot be loaded, then this would be of huge benefit to the user and would save any embrassement.

The feature could also be toggled on/off in the preferences menu.

Thanks for reading

I learned from your other thread that you are running Mixxx 1.9.1, which is outdated.

Your idea already had found it`s way into Mixxx 1.10.1 which is available from http://www.mixxx.org/download
Under Mixxx > Preferences > Interface you can choose whether or not to allow loading tracks into playing decks. The default is "dis-allow".

Can you help with this problem?
