Several issues with AutoDJ

Asked by Gary Tayman

Before reporting these as bugs, I thought I'd begin by asking about these as a question. Please get back with me if you have ideas for workarounds.

First, AutoDJ works fine if you load the songs and hit Enable. BUT the trouble begins when you Disable, to make an announcement of some sort. When re-enabling, it will play the previous song over again. One must delete it from the queue manually before pressing Enable, if the list is to be picked up where it left off. This is a bit of a nuisance.

Reading the bug list, it appears someone is planning to make AutoDJ load the next song immediately rather than wait till the last minute. This is a GOOD thing, as even if the previous song is still in the deck, it can be changed. Currently if a song is selected for the deck, it will spit it out and play something else -- most likely the first song in the queue, which will be the last song played (AGAIN!) because it has not been deleted.

Next, I've noticed that in playlists AND in the AutoDJ queue, some songs get thrown in twice. Why? I can go through the entire list and delete all the extras, but if I close MIXXX and reopen later, there will be more repeats.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I can't find any way to delete the AutoDJ queue. Between the double-song bug and the inability to arrange songs bug (reported already), I'd like to clean out the queue and start over. But I have to delete every song, one by one, which takes forever. Once cleaned out, I can reload and I can once again sort. But these problems are so bad that I cannot really add a playlist to run automatically -- better to load a few songs at a time as I wish to play them, and keep adding a few at a time as the night progresses. Not a bad way to do things, but this is truly not an automatic setup.

Please let me know if you have comments or workarounds.

BTW, I'm running an HP laptop, 64 bit, Windows 7. No MIDIs or externals, using the sound output to feed into the sound system.

Hi Gery,

I hope most Auto-DJ issues are solved in lp:~daschuer/mixxx/autodj.
The changes are also included in my trunk. You can find builds on http://builds.mixxx.org/builds/experimental-daschuers_trunk/

http://builds.mixxx.org/builds/experimental-daschuers_trunk/mixxx-1.11.0-alpha-daschuer~daschuers-trunk-bzr2925-x64.exe

Please Note: These experimental builds are only for testing propose. They are based on 1.11.0-alpha with an updated database schema. So its a good Idea to backup your "Local Settings\Application Data\Mixxx" folder first.

With this changes, a song is loaded to the track and deleted from the queue when the song played before is stopped.

You can Delete the entire queue with:
Ctrl-A and select delete from the context menu (Right Klick)

If you like, you can report your test results here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~daschuer/mixxx/autodj/+merge/61320
And please do not hesitate to write a bug report. The best one per issue.

Kind regards

Daniel
