Vector boson fusion integral singularity

Asked by Leonardo Palombini

Hi, I am trying to generate the process mu+ mu- > mu+ mu- e+ e- e+ e- as background for mu+ mu- > h mu+ mu-, h > e+ e- e+ e-. I keep getting much less events than the requested, probably due to the presence of a singularity. I use pT>5 GeV and eta<2.4 on the electrons, while the forward muons are undetected. Is there a theory-safe way to set this integration, without setting arbitrary cuts on the muons?

Hi,

In a way you always needs cut, the other solution is to use a PDF for the T-channel particles (renormalised or not) but those also are using cut when those are extracted. Especially since your cut on the electron sounds quite soft to use such approximation.

Cheers,

Olivier
