ME test failure for photon+jet process

Asked by Sihyun Jeon

Dear MadGraph team,

I am making "p p > a j [QCD]" with ptj = 10 and ptgmin = 570 cut.

One thing that I cannot fully understand is that I get an error like [1] which I do not understand as different values for pta (370 or 170) doesn't give back any error logs. What would be the cause for this error?

So it only fails for ptgmin between 520 to 670, away from this window it works

import model loop_sm-no_b_mass
generate p p > a j [QCD]
output
launch
0
set no_parton_cut
set ptj 10
set nevents 50
set ptgmin XXX
set r0gamma 0.15

I've altered XXX

Thanks for the bug report. There is indeed a problem with the test when having photons with a relatively large minimal pT in the process. For now, the easiest way to get around the problem is to simply skip the tests. For this you run:

import model loop_sm-no_b_mass
generate p p > a j [QCD]
output
launch
0
set no_parton_cut
set ptj 10
set nevents 50
set ptgmin XXX
set r0gamma 0.15

as before. Let it crash, and then start the run with

launch -x -f

to skip the questions and the tests (it also skips part of the compilation, which is the reason that you still have to let it crash first so that all the parameters you set are correctly transferred to the fortran code.)

This will be fixed in the next release of the code.

best,
Rikkert

Hello Rikkert,

Is it possible to get the patch for this part if you have time to work on it? I can make a hack only for this particular case, but this will occur to any other random CMS samples and it's better to have a patch centrally configured.

Hello Sihyun,

Sorry for the delay.

Probably the easiest to get this working is to replace the test_soft_col_limits.f file (in SubProcesses) using this one https://github.com/mg5amcnlo/mg5amcnlo/blob/3.5.2/Template/NLO/SubProcesses/test_soft_col_limits.f instead of the default. The important changes are around lines 190-216 or so. Depending on which version you are using now, some more adaptations might be needed.

Best,
Rikkert

Ah also this is a feature in mg29x as well so Olivier, I think this should be updated there as well if you don't mind
