p p > ta- vt~ [QCD]

Dear all,

I am having trouble generating

p p > ta- vt~ [QCD]

using the SM model file. I would like to use PYTHIA8 to shower the events but the hepmc output is an empty file. I tried the same generation at NLO in QCD with muons and electrons and all worked fine. Also, at LO all is working fine with all three generations. I could not come up with a reason why this is happening.

Also, a follow up question if I may:

I realised I can decay the taus (I am just interested in the leptonic decays) and compute the process at NLO in QCD. However, if I specify the option [all=QCD], also the diagrams with EW corrections are displayed.

I was wondering if there is a way to exclude [QED] NLO corrections.

Hi,

Not sure to understand your question,
if you do
generate p p > ta- vt~ [QCD]
Then I do not see any EW correction (both with the LTS and 3.X that handle not pure QCD expansion in different way).

If you do have some EW correction, then it might means that your QCD/EW expansion is not unique at NLO and that some counter-term for the QCD expansion at NLO are also coming from the LO EW expansion.

The first thing is that you do understand why this is happening in your case, and then check what is the correct action to do.
If you can indeed just ignore those safely (like if they are negligeable loop contribution). Then various action are possible.
Like setting the code to just ignore those contributions:
(set nlo_mixed_expansion False)
Note that it is likely that pole/soft/collinear test might fail due to that, in such case you will also need to bypass the test (again be sure that you understand why such test fail and why this is safe to ignore such test if you do).

Thank you very much for your reply. I actually thought about the fact that cancellation was probably happening between NLO QCD and LO EW expansion.

However, even if I keep the mixed expansion, generating:

generate p p > ta- vt~

I do not obtain showered events, namely the hepmc file after the Pythia8 run contains 0 events.

I do not know how to cope with this.

What is the pythia8 log/reason for this?
As you can imagine, I/We are not pythia8 expert, so I might not be able to comment on it but we can give it a try.

Well I do not even have a log file from pythia8. Just a showered hepmc file with 0 events. If I am running Delphes over it, it also detect 0 events.

At LO instead, everything is working.

I was wondering if you could reproduce this behaviour.

You should have a log file in
MCatNLO/RUN_PYTHIA8_1
(the directory might have a different name depending of your exact sequence of command/...)

With this I would expect at least a couple of events since you clearly have the information about the first event in the log.
But it seems that you do not have the "end" message of pythia (maybe you did not include it?). Which seems to indicate that pythia crash abruptly and therefore failed to created the output file but they are no information about that.
