Standard run_card.dat kinematic variables not appropriate for e+e- collisions

Asked by David d'Enterria (CERN)

Hello,

There is a growing interest in running e+e- collisions with MG5@NLO. However, most of the default cuts variables defined in the run_card.dat file are pT and eta of the final objects, rather than the energy and theta that are typical of e+e- kinematics. Are there any plans to update this?

Thanks,

David

Hi,

Cut on Energy are already available within the code and should be visible by default for ee collision.
We could add cut on theta.

The main issue here is that we do the computation (and cuts) in the center of mass of the electron and not the center of mass of the beam. If you do not include ISR/beamsthralung, those two frame are identical. But for realistic description of an e+ e- collider those effects are important. So much that I thought that the ee community was also going to use the same type of variable as the LHC (i.e. z-boost invariant). Is that not the case?

Cheers,

Olivier
