Confusion on cross-section values, pp>tqh has smaller value than bq>tqh

Asked by Ciara Byers

Hi,

I am interested in the process p p > Ts ql h in the SM, where ql = u u~ d d~ s s~ c c~ b b~ and Ts = t t~
I wanted to calculate this value in madgraph for comparison to real data.
I define ql and Ts then do generate p p > t ql h
I get ~0.0023pb

This does not seem right, the measured value is over 70fb! And for the sub-process Bs ql > Ts ql h I get ~ 36fb using madgraph (where Bs = b b~)

I didn't expect there to be this level of cancellation! Am I doing something wrong with the way that I input this?

Hi,

The SM model is configure to be on a four flavour scheme.
so the proton is configure to not have "b" quark (or anti-b quark) in the initial state.

Looks like you want to do your computation in a five flavour scheme. In that case you need to change the model that you are using to
sm-no_b_mass

and in that case
p p > Ts ql h
will contain the "b/b~" in the initial state. (and the code will be configure by default for 5 flavour)

Cheers,

Olivier
