a binning of 10 GeV

Good morning

I need to study a number of events with the total invariant mass with a bin =10 GeV .

does a bin depend on the scale of invariant mass?

let say the x axis scale is from 50 to 500, is the bin in this example =10 ?

Hi,

Your question does not make sense if you do not provide the information about the tool that you are using to perform the plot and the syntax that you use to define the plot.

Additionally, we might not be the correct person to ask such question (depending of which type of tool/syntax that you use).

I used MadGraph to generate the process in 2HDMtII_NLO g g > h1 e+ e- / a [noborn=QCD]

I run the process with 100,000 events and I got the cross section = 0.144 pb

Now, I want to plot the number of events with luminosity = 100 fb-1 with the invariant mass M(e+ e- h1) and the bin size should = 10 GeV

Does that mean the scale of the x axis should be from 50 to 500?

So since your process is a LO one and the fact that you do not mention any external tools.
I deduced that you are using one of the plotting method that we can link of at LO.

We can actually link to two(or three) plotting method
1. MadAnalysis4
2. Madanalysis5
3. exRootAnalysis (not sure if it can directly do plot but this converter to root is often used for that at the end of the day)

So which one did you use?

If you use "3" then I would suggest to contact expert in Root plotting
If you use "1" or "2" then you should have a configuration file that defines what kind of plot you want
and the syntax that you use within that file is what I need to be able to comment.

For "2" the syntax is like
plot SQRTS 40 0 500 [logY]
where "40" is the number of bin
"0" is the begining of the first bin
and "500" is the end of the last bin.
(linear scale for the x axiz is default but you can ask for log scale)
With that information you should be able to determine how to have bin of 10 GeV

I have mentioned that I am using Madanalysis5
That what I did after import the path of the event
define l = e+ e-
ma5>select (l) PT > 10
ma5>select (l) Y < 2.5
ma5>set main.lumi = 100
ma5>plot M(e-[1] h1[1] e+[1]) 50 0 500 [logY ]
I don't know what is the bin size? is it 10 here?
I thought the bin size is the end of the last bin/ the number of bin , in my case 500/50 = 10

Am I wrong?

I would have said (last_value-initial_value)/nb_bin
but then yes it sounds like your syntax gives you 10 GeV size.

If this is not the case, please ask MA5 team (you technically select the MG5aMC team and we do not overlap).
