installation of a particular version of Pythia8 and Delphes with Madgraph

Asked by Amandeep Kaur Kalsi

Dear Experts,

I am installing Madgraph version 2.6.7. The pythia and Delphes versions installed using "install pythia8(Delphes)" command are usually the latest ones i.e. pythia8245 and Delphes3.5.0 in my case. However, I would like to install pythia8244 and Delphes-3.4.2 versions instead as I need to use the same version as used by my colleague. Therefore, I would like to know if it is possible to pick and install the desired versions of them instead of latest within Madgraph. I tried to look for a file containing the information of delphes/pythia versions for installation (in order to modify it, if possible) but could not find so.

Please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,
Amandeep

Hi,

This is not possible via the "install XXXX" functionality.

For Delphes, you can download and compile it by hand and then edit the file
input/mg5_configuration.txt

The same can in principle be done for pythia8, however you also need to install manually the mg5-pythia8 inteface code in the same way to have the linking working.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for the information. Does the following command works as expected (I found it from older threads) because I see that pythia is installed in my HEPTools directory while it is not downloaded as default. I wanted to make sure that the pythia version i have in HEPTools directory corresponds to this tar file. Is there way to check this.?

install pythia8 --pythia8_tarball=/lustre/home/amkalsi60/Custom/pythia8244.tgz

Please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,
Amandeep

I was not aware of that option.
But it might be working.

For checking you have the installation log file where you should have the details of the unnpacking/installation

Cheers,

Olivier
