Reweighting using multicore mode

Asked by Jay Sandesara on 2020-07-02

Is there a way to run reweighting in parallel on multicore mode? I cannot find an option here: https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/madgraph/wiki/Reweight

I am trying to reweight existing events using ./bin/madevent and then reweight run_01 and so on.

Well in principle running in parallel is not supported.
The implementation was ready but was not fully functional.

However it seems that a bug activated this mode by default for NLO type re-weighting. As expected, this was leading to bug.
In 2.7.3, a deep rewriting of the code should was removing the race issue that was making the NLO re-weighting to crash in multicore. I have not yet investigated if that version can now do reweighting in parrallel even for LO sample. ( I guess it only really makes sense for loop-induced process since otherwise you will be dominated by the IO time to split and recombine the event file)

Cheers,

Olivier

Using 2.7.3 for rweighting gives the following error, which doesn't come in 2.7.2 where I originally run. Is this a related issue?:

reweight run_01

A priori this has nothing to do with the version of MG5aMC,
This is a pure lhapdf issue.
On some machine, you are force to setup the environment variable
LD_LIBRARY_PATH to a specific path to have lhapdf working correctly.

you can add this path to make it works (if you install it from MG5aMC) HEPTools/lhapdf6/lib/

Cheers,

Olivier
