Strange output on screen after merging files

Asked by Amin Aboubrahim on 2020-02-05

Hi Olivier,

I'm using MG5 v 2.7.0 with PY8 (newest version) and I'm getting a strange output on the screen right after PY8 starts merging results:

The output is much longer than that but it seems to be an internal MG5 python code. I can send you the whole output via email if need be. I tried it on two machines and I got the same output. Now, despite all that, PY8 finishes normally and outputs a hepmc file.
I asked PY8 authors and they said this isn't a PY8 issue.

Any idea on what's causing this?

Thank you,
Amin

Actually I do not reproduce this printout.
Which OS and python version are you using?

Will assign this to Valentin just in case but I doubt that he can help.

Could you attach (for this you need to convert this question into a bug report) the debug file that you get when typing Ctrl-C when those display appears?

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 (gcc 7.4.0) and Python 2.7.17. Now there is python3 installed on the system as well but the default one (i.e. when typing 'python') is 2.7.17. Is it possible that Python3 is interfering in some way?
I will convert this to a bug report.

Thank you,
Amin

No I do not think that the presence of python3 is the issue.

It looks more like if you have a environment variable that setup some debug mode of python/linker code
But this is a pure guess

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Unfortunately, pressing Ctrl-C does not generate any error message. I'm not sure what environment variable I might have which could be causing this. Everything was fine with older MG5 versions but once I switched to version 2.7.0 I started getting this. Again, I don't believe this is causing any errors. The output files all look sound to me.

Thanks for trying to help. If I know what's causing this I will write back.

Best,
Amin

Sorry to not being able to provide more help.

Cheers,

Olivier
