Get mother particle/parton of all final state partilces

Asked by Christof

Dear All,
This questions refers to Pyythia8 rather then MadGraph (or the combination of both); however, I didn't know whom to contact concerning this matter. I apologize if this question is misplaced.
I've generated some dijet events at LO with MadGraph and used Phythia's Les Houches accord to shower the final state quarks respectively gluons originating from the hard interaction. There is no detector simulation involved. I'd now like to associate each final state particle with one of the two partons from the underlying hard process. Is this possible? And if so, how to do it?
Best regards,
Christof

Hi,

Before hadronization this should be possible, after hadronization this is likely to not be possible (since the string is connected to both jet in this case). This being said you should read the Hepmc manual to see where such information is kept and see what information is present.

Cheers,

Olivier
