how to imply my own cut on a particle in an exotic model

Asked by Yao Yao on 2019-11-19

Hi,

I am trying to run the process p p > mu+ mu- zp with HAHM model. The event generation is super slow with zp mass at MeV level, and zp in general has very small pt. So some CMS people suggested that I can try applying momentum cut on the zp particle in MadGraph. I am trying to follow the page https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/madgraph/wiki/FAQ-General-1 , but when I looked into the folder that contains "Source" and "Subprocesses", I found that the dummy_fct.f doesn't contain dummy_cuts(P) function. Since the webpage was posted in 2013, I am wondering if the code file has been changed since then. Sorry I am not good at fortran code. Could you explain or lead me to a direction, like which part of the code I need to add/change? What I want to do is to customize a pt cut on the zp particle that is defined in HAHM model.

Best regards,
Yao.

Hi,

You certainly have a very old version of the code.
This file does exists (for LO process)
But I thought that I introduce that file around 2016.

Therefore I would suggest you to update your version of MG5aMC.
Additionally in recent version of the code, you will find entry inside the run_card
that allow you to set pt cut on that particle without the need to touch any of the fortran file.

Cheers,

Olviier

PS: You might also need to have a cut preventing zp to be collinear with the muon.

Hi Olivier.

Thank you. I found the place in the run_card to change the code after I install Madgraph 2.6.5.

Cheers,
Yao
