Fortran Run-time error in Madgraph

Asked by Songshaptak De on 2019-06-04

Hi,
I am generating 100000 events for the process : p p > w+ w- j j QED=6, w+ > j j, w- > e- ve~ with ptj = 30.0, ptl = 25.0 and pt of both the W's between 800 and 1000 GeV. However, I am getting the following runtime error,

At line 279 of file rw_events.f (unit = 27, file = '/tmp/gfortrantmpZpo8x9')
Fortran runtime error: No space left on device
rm: cannot remove `results.dat': No such file or directory
ERROR DETECTED

Why am I getting this kind of error ? And, is there any resolution for this error ?

Hi,

Looks like that you do not have any disk space (on the /tmp partition) to write the scratch disk that we need to store temporary the weighted events --before the second un-weighting--.

To fix this you can free some space on your disk and/or configure your compiler to use another temporary directory if you do not control on the size of the /tmp partition.

Cheers,

Olivier

How will I configure the compiler to use another temporary directory ?

I never tried it to be honest,
the only documentation that I have is the following one:
http://fortranwiki.org/fortran/show/Scratch+Files

but I hear some people claiming that it was not working... I guess that it might depend of your compiler
(and therefore you should refer to the documentation of the compiler (and the version of the compiler) that you are using.

Cheers,

Olivier
