Generating root file with MadGraph

Asked by Alim.ruzi

I am using madgraph for the first time. I successfully installed it.
I wanted to generate a root file to be used in another package. To do that, the aMCfast package is needed and I downloaded the aMCfast 2.0.0 and installed it successfully. I followed the examples on hepforge website but failed to generate root file.
The following is what I got after typing 'launch' command in mg5. what should I do after this?

Choose
 1. the shower/hadronization program shower = OFF |
2. Choose the detector simulation program detector = OFF
3. Choose an analysis package (plot/convert) analysis = MadAnalysis5
4. Decay onshell particles madspin = OFF
5. Add weights to events for new hypp. reweight = OFF
\==============================================================================/
Either type the switch number (1 to 5) to change its setting,
Set any switch explicitly (e.g. type 'shower=Pythia8' at the prompt)
Type 'help' for the list of all valid option
Type '0', 'auto', 'done' or just press enter when you are done.[60s to answer]

Hi,

If you want to convert our output format to root, you need to use a converter.
ExRootAnalysis (or Delphes) can be used for that.

ExRootAnalysis has a simple interface within MG5aMC framework (at LO only)
you can do
install ExRootAnalysis
to install it locally

and then set your analysis to "ExRootAnalysis" and you shoud have root output file.
(Do not forget to cite the ExRootAnalysis package if you use it obviously)

Cheers,

Olivier

Dear Olivier and all,
Thank you so much for the help!.
Exactly, I need to calculate the cross sections atNLO ,in this case, how can I get the root file?
Thank you!
Bests,

Hi,

The information on the screen that you quote earlier was a pure LO output. Not an NLO one.
At NLO, we have NLO+PS (MC@NLO) and fNLO type of computation.
They are also a dedicated mode for aMCfast (but I do not know the details on that).

at fNLO, you only have the cross-section and some distributions (no event generation)
at NLO+PS, the output format depend of the parton-shower that you choose. In general this is hepmc format
that can easily be converted to root file but we do not offer such conversion within our tools.

Cheers,

Olivier
