would tau handedness make a difference, when tau is not forced to decay?

Asked by Prudhvi Bhattiprolu

Dear Madgraph experts,

I'm working on a new model, in which a new particle decays sometimes to a left-handed tau, or sometimes to a right handed tau. If I'm not forcing the tau to decay, would madgraph care about the handedness of the tau ?, in other words, would there be any difference if the new particle decays to left or right handed tau, when tau is not forced ? Im thinking no, but I want to make sure.

Thanks.

Cheers,

I'm confused.

What do you mean by " when tau is not forced ?"
maybe it will be more clear if you write the process that you consider

Cheers,

Olivier

Hello Olivier,

Sorry for the confusion. If lp and lp~ are the new lepton pair (both of them can decay to z and a tau), then If I do "generate p p > lp lp~, (lp > z ta-), (lp~ > z ta+)", would there be any difference If I have left-handed or right-handed tau in the final state, where I am not forcing the tau to decay any further? I hope this is more clear?

Thanks

Hi Prudhvi,

I'm also not so sure of your concern. But, I think those depends on your model.
So, it would be good to check explicitly.

Best wishes,
Kentarou
