Pythia8 shower interrupted

Asked by Sebastian Urrutia-Quiroga

Hi all,
I'm sorry for bothering you, but I hope you can help me with my issue. I'm trying to use Pythia8 with MG5_aMC_v2.6.3.2 but I have not been able to do it successfully. I got the same error than other users about parallel computation, so I changed nb_core to 1. However, now I get the following message:

InvalidCmd : Pythia8 shower interrupted with return code 139.
You can find more information in this log file:
 /home/seba/Programs/MG5_aMC/LNV_100TeV/Events/run_02/tag_1_pythia8.log

In the mentioned file, I found these lines:

-------- End PYTHIA Event Listing -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PYTHIA Warning in Pythia::check: energy-momentum not quite conserved
PYTHIA Warning in Pythia::check: not quite matched particle energy/momentum/mass
/home/seba/Programs/MG5_aMC/LNV_100TeV/Events/run_02/run_shower.sh: line 2: 19345 Segmentation fault (core dumped) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/seba/Programs/MG5_aMC/HEPTools/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH /home/seba/Programs/MG5_aMC/HEPTools/MG5aMC_PY8_interface/MG5aMC_PY8_interface tag_1_pythia8.cmd

Do you have any suggestion to fix it? I've tried to contact Pythia staff for several weeks with no response yet.

Thank you in advance,
Sebastian

hi,

I guess that this is for a matched/merge generation (with MLM?)
The best person to contact in that case is Stefan Prestel.
The segfault is likely to be in the MG5-PY8 interface and he is the one who wrote it (and an author of PY8).

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,
Thank you so much for your suggestion, I will contact him.
If you don't mind, I still have a quick question: how can I generate my events using multicore, and then run pythia (when it works) with single-core?

I really appreciate your help,
Sebastian

Hi all,
Is there any new information about how to solve this problem? I would really appreciate any help because I've tried in a new computer, with the most recent version of both MG5 and Pythia8 and nothing works.

Thank you in advance,
Sebastian
