Should virtual particles appear in the unweighted_events.lhe file?

Asked by zk

I am using a custom model in madgraph and have a general question about a process generated as such:

p p > two intermediary particles > final state particles.

Should the intermediary particles appear in the unweighted_events.lhe file only when they are on-shell?

Yes that's the case.

In this context onshell means that the difference between the invariant mass and the onshell mass is less than width times the "bwcutoff" parameter (of the run_card.dat). This is an important information for the parton-shower. Indeed the parton-shower do not behave in the same way if an intermediate particle is written or not.

Cheers,

Olivier
