ISR in MG5

Asked by Saurabh Niyogi

Hi,

I have a general query, I do not know if the question makes sense.

I want to know if we run pythia (inside MG5 set up) and switch on ISR ( MSTP(61) etc) , does it work ? How exactly does it work ? I thought MG5 does hard scattering and then pass through pythia. If this is so, then how ISR effect takes place ? Shouldn't ISR take place before hard scattering ?

If we pass the stdhep output by MG5 through pythia (stand alone, outside madgraph ), is this fine ? Still ISR works ?

Thanks,
Saurabh

Yes.

This is a too complex question (and not directly related to MG5aMC in top of that) to be answered here.
I would suggest that you check the lecture on pardon-shower of one of the many school on Monte-Carlo physics:
you can see list of school here:
http://www.montecarlonet.org/index.php?p=MCSchool/main&sub=MCSchools
and some more related to MG5aMC here:
https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/madgraph/wiki/MGTutorial

Short answer:
The hard event generated are inclusive in term of radiation.

Yes this is the same.

Cheers,

Olivier
