In type-III seesaw model in MAdgraph, my problem is with three new neutrinos in this model, which can not be detected by madanalysis plot card because its defined for only SM neutrinos. How do I define missing transverse energ in this model?

Asked by Deepanjali Goswami

I am using type-III seesaw model in MAdgraph, my problem is that there are three new neutrinos in this model, which can not be detected by madanalysis plot card because its defined only for SM neutrinos. How do I define missing transverse energ, missing transverse momentum for neutrinos in this model? Please help me out in this case.

Did you update the list of unobserved particles in the plot_card.dat?

Hi,
yes, I proposed the list of unobserved particles with their PDG in plot
card of type-III seesaw. But problem is that its not detecting as missing
energy since missing energy is already defined with the SM neutrinos, it
is also mentioned that it cant be edited.

So I am facing problem with definition of missing energy with new neutrinos.

Thanks and regards,
Deepanjali

Hi,

mET 12 -12 14 -14 16 -16 1000022 # Missing ET class, name is reserved

you can put the pdg that you want on that line, the meaning of the mET class is special. That’s the meaning of that of the comment.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi,

I tried earlier with new particle(neutrino) PDG notation in mET, but it
did not me any plot.
I thought I will have to define it somewhere else also. I did not have idea.

And how can I define PT of all missing particle in plot card? Can you plz
suggest me.

Thanking you.

Can you show me the line that you put? Such that I can check it.
This should be the only place where to do it.
(and it works for me)

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I am still not getting plots with syntex for mET.
What may be the reason for this?

Cheers,
Deepanjali

Well they are a lot of possibilities:

1) Do you have other plot? or do not succeed to have any plot?

If you do not have any plot, then it means that you have a problem with the plotting program.
maybe a 32/64 bit incompatibility.

2) You do not have any particles with those ID in your lhe file.

In that case, obviously you will not see anything.
It means that either you do not look at the process that you think.
You look at plot at parton level right? (no shower/hadronization/…)

3) Do you have the plot but do not see any structure for the MET one?

Then either the range is not good enough and/or that you do not have any MET on that range at all.
This is likely to point to a physics problem than a code problem.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi,

Thank you very much for your nice explanation.

1) yes, I do have other plot except mET.

2) How can I have these ID's in type-III seesaw model lhe file??
It may be a possible reason. Anyhow I will have to see this process for my
analysis part.
I look at the plot at parton level only.

3)No, I neither have plot nor structure for MET. I checked with different
range for this purpose. Still same problem sustains.

Thank you very much.
Regards,
Deepanjali

Can you copy paste here one of the events of the lhe file produced by madgraph.
This is the information which is read to make the plot.
With one event, we will be able to compute manually the associate MET and check where it should be on the plot.
If this is zero then it will explains your plot.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi,

Ok your events indeed has some non zero missing et.
So I do not know.
The only work around then I can see is then to use another code to make that plot.

you can use madanalysis5
or write your own routine with matplotlib by using the lhe_parser class of madgraph.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi,

I could get the plot of missing energy for type-III seesaw model.
Thank you very much for your all suggestions.

Now may I ask you, does Madgraph have any syntax to find invariant missing
energy ? I am not able to get the distribution. Or do I have to define it
in plot card?

I hope you will Kindly suggest me way to solve the problem.

Thanking you.
Cheers,
Deepanjali
