SM (h -> b b~) partial decay width

Asked by Safinaz

Dear MG authors,

I'd like to ask when I generate h -> b b~ process in MG, it gives the decay width of order 10^-9 GeV, while from for example:

https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LHCPhysics/CERNYellowReportPageBR

it's of order ( BR( h-> b b) * total decay width at mh =125 GeV ) ~ 10^-3 GeV,

So what is the difference in MG.

Bests,
Safinaz

Dear Safina,

I have made the computation h > b b~ (all default) and here is the result:

  === Results Summary for run: run_01 tag: tag_1 ===

     Width : 0.005391 +- 6.978e-12 GeV
     Nb of events : 10000

So I do not know what you did wrong but at least I do not reproduce your result.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi dr. Olivier,

Even though this means that MG gives (h -> b b~) ~ 10^-15 GeV, while in the results page

https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LHCPhysics/CERNYellowReportPageBR

it's ~ 10^-3 GeV (at mh= 125 ). Also Djouadi's Higgs review for example gives the same value ~ 10^-3 GeV (table 2.1).

So what is the difference.

Hi,

The result of MG is 0.005391 GeV
with an associate error of 6.978e-12 GeV

So this is correct order of magnitude.

Cheers,

Olivier
