Patch for di-photon kinematic cuts

Asked by Pasquale Musella

Good morning,

in the last weeks/months I worked on generating p p > a a + jets using MG5_aMC@NLO.

I must say that the generator interface is very user friendly and that the final result is very satisfactory.

Nevertheless, I found the need to customize the kinematic cuts to impose on the di-photon pair. I ended up adding such cuts in such a way that they are configurable through the run card.

Since I imagine that this would be useful to other users, I was wandering if such addition can merged upstream in the release.

I am not sure of what the procedure for this would be. The patch (on top of v2.2.1) corresponding to such changes is available below, but I can easily publish my bzr repository I believe.

Please let me know if you think that this is useful and how you want me to proceed.

Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Pasquale

Dear Pasquale,

Thanks for this suggestion and creating the patch. I think your implementation is correct and could be made part of the main code -- in principle. (Apart from the fact that one should be careful that one first need to define isolated photons *defined with a minimal pT* otherwise non of your cuts will pass, which is not obvious from the run_card).

However, we want to keep the run_card as minimal as possible: these parameters will only be relevant for a very small subset of all possible processes. I've discussed this with Olivier, and we agreed that we will not make your patch part of the main code because they are too specific and can be implemented by a user without too much effort.

Best regards,
Rikkert
