Delphes output root files empty - possible installation problem

Asked by Xanthe Hoad on 2014-12-08

Hi,

When I try to run MadEvent with Delphes switched on, the root files outputted have size 1kb and are empty. There are no errors during running and the only info messages while Delphes is running are:
INFO: prepare delphes run
INFO: Running Delphes
INFO: delphes done

I believe this may be linked to a large number of warnings I got when installing Delphes. As there is a large number of them, they are visible here https://paste.ee/p/xaNw7

I am using MadGraph5 v2.2.2 on Mac OS 10.7.5.

Any advice on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

The message that I see are fine.

Did you install Delphes from 2.2.2 or did you install it before updating to 2.2.2?
If this is the latest, one solution might be to reinstall it.

Otherwise, I would suggest to look at the Delphes log file, to see what the problem is, and report the
problem to the Delphes author:

The error message that you added to the Delphes ticket indicates that a wrong Delphes configuration file is used in MG5.

Here is the error message:

INFO: initializing module PileUpMerger
ERROR: can't open pile-up file MinBias.pileup

Normally, this problem should be fixed in the latest MG5 version.

Olivier, could you, please check what Delphes configuration file is used by default?

Regards,

Pavel

I installed Delphes from 2.2.2

Hi Pavel,

In 2.2.2, the default configuration that we use is the following one:
Delphes/examples/delphes_card_CMS.tcl

I've just re-installed Delphes, and checked that this is indeed the case.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for checking this.

Delphes/examples/delphes_card_CMS.tcl is the correct file.

I've just checked myself that this file does not have any mention of PileUpMerger by doing the following:

wget https://launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/2.0/2.2.0/+download/MG5_aMC_v2.2.2.tar.gz
tar zxf
cd MG5_aMC_v2_2_2
./bin/mg5_aMC
install Delphes
exit
grep PileUpMerger Delphes/examples/delphes_card_CMS.tcl

So, everything looks just perfect and no PileUpMerger related error message should appear in the log.

I don't understand why "INFO: initializing module PileUpMerger" appears in the logs.

Regards,

Pavel
