v2 Matching Behavior

Asked by Matthew Low

Dear MadGraph Team,

I have a question about the behavior of matching in MadGraph v2 that hopefully you could clarify for me. It seems like based on changes made from v1 it is hard to draw the same information from the DJR plots.

For example, if I have the processes
(1) p p > z j j
(2) p p > z j j j

If I generate (1) alone and turn all matching settings on, in the DJR plots there are events in the 1-jet and 2-jet bins. If I generate (1) and (2) and match them, (1) will contribute to the 1- and 2-jet bins while (2) will contribute to the 2- and 3-jet bins. The resulting plot will have events in the 1-, 2-, and 3-jet bins where the 2-jet bin is a sum of two different distributions.

In MadGraph v1, all of (1) was in the 2-jet bin and all of (2) was in the 3-jet bin, so looking at DJR1 was a helpful indicator of smooth matching. In MadGraph v2, because of the way diagrams are broken up, I am unsure of how to relate DJR1 and smooth matching. From the UpdateNotes it sounds like jets from the uuZ vertex in (1) are treated differently, so I don't know if I can even look at the sum of all bins in DJR1 for smoothness.

So my question is how should I draw information from DJR1 (perhaps there is a switch to have this process treated how it was in v1)? And since a subset of jets (the "electroweak" jets) in the events are being treated different, is the matching still consistent?

Thanks,
- Matthew
