"Invalid PDFCODE" error just before parton showering in aMCatNLO

Asked by Mikael Chala

Hi,

I am trying to compute p p > t t~ [QCD] in aMCatNLO. I have correctly installed MCatNLO-utilities, pythia-pgs (fixing the libpythia error as explained in https://bugs.launchpad.net/pythia-pgs-for-mg/+bug/1202197), Delphes, FastJet, etc. I have set PYTHIA6Q to the default shower. I can generate the parton-level (unphysical) events and cross sections, and everything seems to work fine. However, when I try to use the NLO event generation including running the shower I get the next error message:

"INFO: Prepairing MCatNLO run
INFO: Compiling MCatNLO for PYTHIA6Q...
Invalid PDFCODE
MadFKS_PYTHIA6Q.Script: line 118: [: : integer expression expected

If you need help with this issue please contact us on https://answers.launchpad.net/madgraph5
aMCatNLOError : Compilation failed, check /home/miki/MadGraph5/ttbar/mcatnlo.log for details

I have tried to set manually a PDFCODE before the "if [ "$PDFCODE" -ne 0 ...]" in the MCatNLO_MadFKS_PYTHIA6Q.Script file but I still have a (different) error:

"INFO: Prepairing MCatNLO run

INFO: Running MCatNLO in /home/miki/MadGraph5/ttbar/MCatNLO/RUN_PYTHIA6Q_2 (this may take some time)...

aMCatNLOError : No file has been generated, an error occurred. More information in /home/miki/MadGraph5/amcatnlo_run.log

"

I do not know what I am doing wrong. Any suggestion?

Thank you very much.

Dear Mikael,
thanks for your feedback.
I think the problem you're experiencing is due to an incompatibility between the version
of aMC@NLO and that of mcatnlo-utilities, a problem which unfortunately was introduced
by myself few days ago, but should be solved now.
I assume you're using the beta3 release of aMC@NLO, and I also assume you installed
mcatnlo-utilities more than a couple of days ago. If this is the case, then installing the
mcatnlo-utilities again now should be sufficient to solve the problem.
If not, then could you please send me your MadFKS_PYTHIA6Q.Script and tell me what
version of aMC@NLO you are using?
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you.
Cheers.
Paolo

Fixed, thanks!

As a final comment: why aMCatNLO does not allow to run Delphes automatically?

Cheers.

Hi Mikael,
we have not implemented that automatic functionality for the moment.
In the future we can do it if there is interest in that.
For the moment you can output stdhep or hepmc files which should be
readable by Delphes.
Cheers.

Hi,

I thought that the reason is that Delphes was not supporting negative events weight.

Otherwise adding the options is a 10 min of work.

Cheers,

Olivier
