Neutrinoless double beta decay

Asked by Jory Sonneveld

Hi,

I would like to calculate the cross section of an inverse neutrinoless double beta decay LHC process using a seesaw model (so far I found type III only). I have the impression that Madgraph does not violate lepton number if I ask it to with a given process like d u~ > e- e- or d u~ > e- e- d u~

Can I tell Madgraph to violate lepton number or should I implement something at the Feynrules level so neutrinoless double beta decay diagrams are possible?

I am very new to the theory as well as the phenomenology at the LHC, so please tell me if I have missed something obvious and/or very important.

Thanks,
Jory

Hi Jory,

MG is able to deal with model where the leptonic number is not define and/or violated.
If the leptonic charge is define in the model but that number is not conserved. MG will spot it and put an information message about it.
But even in presence of such message, MG is able to treat such model/process.

Of course you need to have a UFO model describing your interactions. If you don't have it then one solution is to write your Lagrangian into FeynRules and ask that
code to produce an UFO model.

Cheers,

Olivier

PS: I'm really surprised by the process that you ask for:
> d u~ > e- e- d u~
> d u~ > e- e-
doesn't conserve the electric charge.

Hi

That is very nice- I am sorry, I see indeed that it should have been:
> d u~ > e- e- d~ u

Thank you for your answer.

Cheers
Jory

Thanks Olivier Mattelaer, that solved my question.
