What is considered "on-shell" for a 2 > 1 process (i.e., p p > V)

Dear MadGraph Authors,
In a process such as "p p > V, V > x x" there is a parameter bwcutoff to define what is considered on-shell for an s-channel resonance V. So what is considered to be on-shell for a 2 > 1 process like "p p > V"?
Thank you very much in advance,
Pawin
