Madanalysis, how to install

I unzipped madanalysis but when trying to run, i get a message that Root is not installed. In the manual it says one needs Root headers. How do I install them? In the Root webpage there was a root source file, it takes forever to install (more than 3 hours, so I stopped it). Is the installation of root headers different from root itself? any help would be appreciated.
