MadG5: having problem with generate_events

Asked by Shibi Rajagopalan

Hi,

I am using MadGraph5 locally to produce pp -> (Z->vv~)+j events. For 10k events, there seemed to be no problem with the run, nor the LHE output, nor with the display. But when I tried 1E6 events I got the first log error that I post below. In addition, and not sure if it is related, I ran

./tests/test_manager.py [--verbose=1] [--logging=INFO]
and
./tests/test_manager.py -p A

and got the errors that post on the very bottom. Would you know what could be causing the error? Thanks for any help.

Shibi

Hello Shibi,

The first error indicates that the event unweighting crashed when you ran 1e6 events. We usually recommend to limit the number of events asked for to 100k per run - you can easily generate larger statistics by using the multi_run feature (inside the bin/madevent command line interface). I'll check to see if we can avoid that this happens in the future, but using multi_run would at least be a quick fix for you.

Regarding the failed test, this is probably a platform-dependent error, and shouldn't affect any regular functionality. We'll take a look at that too.

Many thanks for your report!
Johan

Hello again Shibi,

I have fixed the first error, by allowing to read up to 5M weighted events in the unweighting step. This should be enough for (almost) any process to generate 1M events. The updated version is 1.4.8.3.

Thanks again for your feedback!
Johan

Thanks for the help. The multi_run feature worked very well.
