minimum bias LHC events production with MadGraph

Asked by Lucia Perrini

Hello,
I need to produce a sample of minimum bias events (p p > j j, p p > j j j, etc.) with Madgraph beacuse I need to use the lhe files to add some changes (I have to apply a boost to all particle momenta) before applying the CMS official simulation chain using cmsDriver. What I need to know is which value I have to use for the xqcut in order to implement the jet matching with Pythia6 properly. But, before this question, I would like to understand better if it is necessary to apply the jet matching also in the case of minimum bias events production.

All your suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Best,

Lucia

Hello Luca,

In order to do matching in an appropriate way, you need some "hard" scale. This could include a minimum ht for your multijet events, for example. The matching scale should then be a fraction of this scale, typically at most 1/3. So it is difficult to use jet matching for minimal bias events. I would suggest that you do some tests, comparing the distributions and cross sections for MadGraph 2-jet events and matched 2,3,4-jet events (with a range of matching scales) with Pythia internal dijet events.

All the best,
Johan
