3 win32 .debs of the same date

Asked by Shirish Agarwal

Hi all,
There are 3 .deb packages of win32 codecs on http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/non-free/w/w32codecs/

http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/non-free/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20061022-0medibuntu1%2bb1_i386.deb
http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/non-free/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20061022-0medibuntu1%2bbuild1_i386.deb
http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/non-free/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20061022-0medibuntu1_i386.deb

Usually there are differences of date ( in this case all of them have been done on the same date) with few hrs. differentiating each build (with bb1 shown after 2 days) . Perhaps some kind of better naming scheme would make it more obvious like alpha or beta so one knows which one is what.

Another thing is that the medibuntu help page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu gives /w32codecs_20061022-0medibuntu1+build1_i386.deb as the link which is 2 days older than the build1_i386.deb .

I solved it myself by opening the 3 debs in X archiver, Reading the changelogs & seeing which build is for release. But not many people would know the right thing. Look at the medibuntu page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu which shows only one build & does not say whether that .deb is for dapper, edgy, feisty or dapper. How is one to install the correct package if he takes the individual package? Raising the question with a bug.
