skype "dependencies" or "agreements"

Asked by tommaso

Hi there, my machine is a eeepc 900 just upgraded from jaunty,
with a mobile huawei usb connection,
this is not a bug question but a normalization or optimization one,
on 9.04 I innstalled the base skype,
adding medibuntu repository an update was suggested,
and a gain in usage resulted,
at now I have installed skype-common and skype-mid,
after upgrade to 9.10 fron synaptic seems that skype-mid
is to uninstall and be replaced from skype-static or skype.
Which one is more fit?
Thanks

Hi,

Apparently, skype-mid is an optimized version of skype for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). So myabe you should keep it on your eeepc (it is available in Canonical's partner repository, for hardy, intrepid and jaunty, but not karmic unfortunately).

Package provided in Medibuntu (skype, skype-static and skype-common) ship the "normal" version of Skype for Linux.

(BTW, if you decide to keep skype-mid, you should remove skype-common, which isn't needed by it.)

Hi Lionel,
and thanks,
I think this for now (till some future version) solves my question,
I followed your indication without a reboot and it continues to work nornally,
if there would be inconveniences at reboot, I'll chain a post to follow this.
It seems to me that times has come to consider some more compact and simple tree of depenencies,
this was the simplest of a ten similar question.

I should notice that skype-common is still needed with skype-mid, without it only gtaphic interface works, but one can't hear anything (neither tryed to see).
