Package "skype" should conflict with "skype-common"

Asked by spinstartshere

If Skype is installed from the Skype repositories, both "skype" and "skype-common" are installed. The Medibuntu repository only uses one package to install Skype. If both the Medibuntu and Skype repositories are enabled and Skype is already installed from the Skype repository, a conflict can occur when attempting to "upgrade" to the version in the Medibuntu repository. Is it not possible to have the Medibuntu package uninstall "skype-common" if it is to be installed, so that installation errors do not occur?

Whoops, got it the wrong way around. What I should have said is, can it be made possible for the Medibuntu packages to not trigger the upgrade in the Skype repository packages?

Not easily, but you could try to use apt pinning (see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PinningHowto).
