Repositorios Medibuntu:

sudo -E wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

Agregarlos a SOftware Center:

sudo apt-get install app-install-data-medibuntu apport-hooks-medibuntu

Codecs:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Todo esto ejecutado desde un terminal/consola, el cual lo podes abrir presionando CTRL+ALT+T.

Para multimedia son: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Te recomendaria que instales 12.04 LTS ya que es m{as nuevo, te dejo los links por si lo quieres bajar.
